AtlasDedupe
Duplication of information is a common issue for anyone maintaining a centralised corporate database or multiple departmental data sources. But the problem can range far beyond the Database Administrator. For those who mail, not only will duplicates represent a huge amount of unnecessary cost, but will also have a detrimental impact on your reputation with your customers.
Why is duplication becoming an increasingly common problem?
- Typing and Casing Errors
- Misheard Names or Addresses
- Data-Warehousing. Mergers and Acquisitions or a new Corporate Strategy may require the merging of various disparate data sources, creating obvious potential for duplication.
- Web Data Capture. Whilst this mechanism of data collection has seen a massive uptake, the increase in customer contacts can sometimes be at the cost of accurate information.
How can AtlasDedupe help you?
- AtlasDedupe is a sophisticated tool for eliminating unwanted duplicates. Whether it be consumer or business data, Australian or International, AtlasDedupe can intelligently identify duplicates at both individual and property level.
- AtlasDedupe categorises duplicates by Passes and Scoring. Each 'Pass' of the data places weighting on different elements of the input information. Percentage scoring can also be activated depending on the specific requirements of a given dataset.
- As a user you have the choice to act on AtlasDedupe's findings. Duplicate records can be deleted automatically, verified interactively, merged, purged, output to separate databases for update or archive. Alternatively make use of the resultant report to make amendments within your live systems. Whatever the preferred method AtlasDedupe empowers the user to undertake complex data processes that can bring real benefits to your business.

ATLAS Modular Software Suite
ATLAS is the culmination of 20 years of providing Address management solutions. For mainframe use, including IBM AS400 (iSeries) supply, ATLAS is provided as a series of COBOL modules that can be integrated into these highly customised scenarios. For Unix and Windows users, Atlas is provided as a series of callable libraries written in C.
The available components in the ATLAS suite are described individually below.
PAF Build for ATLAS
- This process is used to create the proprietary format PAF data files required for use with ATLAS. The process involves the reading of and conversion from the supplied Relational Database format Australia Post Files into a more efficient flat file format. The data is quality checked against both the previous version and the current Australia Post provided details. The files are then compressed at this stage to reduce size and increase efficiency, and the resultant compressed files are again checked against the original PAF for quality prior to release to the clients on the appropriate formatted media. The PAF build is essential for all modules of ATLAS. Alternative data sets, based on addresses, can be loaded through this process, allowing multiple data sets to be utilised if required.
Full Address Matching Module
- This module forms the basis of the AMAS accreditation, and involves the comparison of clients raw address data against the PAF. The module accepts free format address fields, unparsed, which are then broken down internally and matched to the PAF records according to English Language rule-based logic. If the address is matched, then the relevant DPID can be output with the matched PAF address and other associated information. Also available for output are standardised error codes that allow further analysis of unmatched addresses, by indicating at what level the address was unable to be matched at, for example street not found in the locality, premise outside range and so forth. The ability to pass addresses to the module in this manner allows this to be integrated into both batch and online systems easily and quickly. Sample harnesses are provided, as well as the code for passing information to and from the module.
Rapid Key Address Extraction
- This is a tool that allows a minimised number of keystrokes to extract data from the PAF, and is targeted towards address verification primarily. Two key fields, a rapid key and premise, are passed to the module. This then returns all the addresses, including sub-premise information, containing the data. The rapid key consists of the postcode plus the first three characters of the street name and can accept standard database wildcards. The premise key can also accept a wildcards, and is an optional field. This methodology has several advantages over alternative type down techniques, by reducing the network traffic/processor transactions and by ensuring that the full range of information containing these elements is returned. Often in type down techniques, inaccurate acceptance of a postcode/locality can lead to inaccurate address details being garnered from the operator.
Gazetteers
- The gazetteers, effectively geographical dictionaries, are available in three different levels: Locality, Street and Premise. These are designed to allow users to search the PAF for addresses using standard database wildcards when investigating addresses.
- The Premise Gazetteer
The Premise Gazetteer allows searches upon the PAF with various wildcards for premises and streets within a state or the country as a whole. The module returns a list of available PAF addresses with these components.
- The Street Gazetteer
The Street Gazetteer allows wildcard searches on the PAF to street level. This allows for more rapid searches to return streets in either state or nationally, allowing easy address correction.
- The Locality Gazetteer
The Locality Gazetteer allows wildcard searches on the PAF of localities & synonyms and returns all the relevant localities as well as the State they are situated in.
Address Formatting Module
- This module formats the individual address components output from AH23CODE into approved label formats for printing, as well as allowing the address labels to be produced with intelligent Upper and lower case lettering. It is built to handle variable situations such as O'Connell Street accurately.
Barcode String Generator
- This module produces the relevant, compliant barcode string for generating the 4-State barcode for Australia Post discounting. It accommodates the 7 approved types allowed by Australia Post.
DeDuplication
- This module is provided as source code, and accepts keys generated from the Full Address Matching module. The deduplication keys allow for flexible, reliable deduplication with minimised resource requirements, included multiple passes and efficient processing. The keys that are generated are highly developed and include the ability to deal with synonym localities for example. Full assistance is provided in utilising the potential of deduplication.
PreSort
- PreSort support for address lodgement with Australia Post is also provided, including generating the necessary lodgement documents.
